FUNTUA LOCAL GOVERNMENT

LOCAL GOVERNMENT EDUCATION AREA ACTIVITIES, 1999-2007

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

Funtua LGEA is one of the oldest seven local governments of inherited from the old Kaduna state after the creation of Katsina state. The following Education Secretaries served in the LGEA from 1999 to date

With introduction of UBE programme in the country, the Universal Basic Education Com mission (UBEC), State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Education Tax Fund (ETF) Federal Government, Local government Council are all making effort towards improving education delivery in the following ways:

1. Construction/Rehabilitation of classroom Accommodations

i. SUBEB/State Government - 18 blocks of 82 classrooms

ii. UBEC - 05 blocks of 15 classrooms

iii. World Bank/community - 27 blocks of 54 classrooms

iv. Local Government Council - 25 blocks of 50 classrooms

v. Education Tax Fund (ETF) - 05 blocks of 10 classrooms

Rehabilitation

i. World Bank/Community - 03 blocks of 6 classrooms

ii. Local Government Council - 15 blocks of 30 classrooms

 

2. INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The Katsina state Government through the state universal Basic Education Board has regularly supplying instructional materials from 2000-2006 to our primary Schools. These instructional materials include; Exercise Books, Pencil, Rulers, Cleaners, Sharpeners, Chalks, Cardboard papers to mentioned, but few. Similarly, the local government has participated in UBE/World bank programme in the state and similar instructional materials were procured and distributed to schools.

Local Government council and private organizations and individuals were not left behind towards contributing their quota in this sector.

5. STAFF WELFARE

Welfare package were provided from 1999 to 2006 in the following:

• Prompt payment of salaries. Leave Transport Grant and other allowances.
• From 1999-2002 sewing machines, rice and Bicycle were given to Funtua LGEA Staff on Loan.
• From 2003 to date, Motorcycles were given to teaching and non teaching staff on loan basis.
• The state Government in collaboration with the SUBEB gave refurbishing loan to all our staff, ranging from GL.01 to GL 14
• Funtua LGEA stands as a guarantor to teaching and non-Teaching staff to enable them to acquire Agric Loan, Personal Loan and over draft from banks.
• INSPECTION/SUPERVISION

Inspectors in the schools services attended various workshops and seminars within and outside the state. SUBEB has also supplied Van and Motorcycle in order to help inspectors to inspect their areas regularly.
